How does Zymex help establish a healthy intestinal environment?
The human digestive tract is home to hundreds of species of “friendly” microflora, and healthy gut flora is now thought to be largely responsible for overall health of the host.1 Bacteria in the human gut (the gut microbiome) play a key role in digestion.2 The pH of the interior (lumen) of the large intestine varies throughout the length of the colon and is affected by the process of microbial fermentation of dietary residue.3 The ingredients in Zymex work together to provide a healthy intestinal environment by supporting the growth of important intestinal flora and maintaining proper digestive function.*
What is an ideal pH?
The term pH refers to the degree of acidity or alkalinity of a water-based solution. Water, for example, has a pH value of 7.0, which is considered neutral (neither acidic nor alkaline). Any value above 7.0 is considered alkaline, and any value below 7.0 is considered acidic. The pH values in the lower gut of healthy individuals varies and has been measured as ranging from 6.6 in the small intestine to 7.5 in the terminal ileum.4 The ingredients in Zymex work to support a healthy pH range in the intestinal tract.*
